Trusts and family wealth protection
Without rules, what a family owns is left to chance, to time and to disagreement.
A trust sets part of your wealth apart and places it under rules you write. It organises how assets are held, protects the people who need it most and makes sure everything reaches the destination you chose, even many years from now.

04Frequently asked questions
Short answers to real questions.
What is a trust and when is it useful?
A trust is an arrangement in which a settlor transfers assets to a trustee, who manages them for beneficiaries according to written rules. It is useful when wealth must be organised over time, when someone needs protection, or when assets must stay together.
Is a trust recognised in Italy?
Yes. Italy ratified the Hague Convention of 1 July 1985 on the law applicable to trusts with Law 364 of 1989. Trusts governed by a foreign law are recognised in Italy.
Trust or family fund (fondo patrimoniale)?
The Italian fondo patrimoniale is reserved to spouses and civil partners and to the needs of the family. A trust is more flexible: it can include any kind of asset, any beneficiary and rules that last beyond one generation.
Can a trust shield assets from creditors?
A trust set up to escape existing creditors can be challenged and set aside. A trust is a tool for organisation and continuity, designed in good time and for legitimate family purposes.
How long does it take to set up a trust?
It depends on the assets and the countries involved. The decisive part is not the deed itself but the work before it: understanding the family and choosing the right rules.
